Over Grassy fields at Robert Frost’s Farm As we walk over the grassy fields, Under high canopies of pines, and Peek in windows of the log cabin Hidden up a long trail In a clearing of its own, A thunderstorm rumbles closer, The sky darkens and the Feeling of rain surrounds us. I feel a pulse building In this retreat of a poet Who taught and inspired me, Often moving me to tears And so many deep feelings. It has been thirty years Since this great verse maker Died and yet sitting here now Under the pine trees In the yard of his house, I feel at home— I feel his presence as if He might come walking Down the trail or Out of the woods, I hear his voice singing A freshly made poem And I feel a transmission From one poet to another, From one generation of Verse maker across Time, space and dimensions To this place where I sit now, receiving it And vowing again, as so many Times before, to master This craft of singing words, To hold myself true To the highest principles, just As he always did. In The Retreat Of One Made Great …At Robert Frost’s Farm II “I had a lover’s quarrel with the world…” Robert Frost There is sorrow And joy lingering Under these Rainy trees. There is light And shadows Dancing across These fields. This is the retreat Of one made great By his own Practice of craft. I feel the passing Of those summers Now passed themselves In lengthening time— How many opportunities Were seized, How many Left behind? In life, each of us must Make the best use of The power and potential We are given. This is one of the lessons I hear from the singing trees, And see on the wings Of the coming storm. The great poet’s life Has already been lived With love and sorrow, Joy and loneliness, Solitude and serenity, Peace and restlessness All the way through To it’s destined end. How many opportunities Were seized? How many swept away By the river of time? August 13, 1990 Ripton, Vermont

The Greatest Gift The greatest gift To one’s Self is To generate the habits, Attitudes, environment and Relationships that will Sustain and support the growth Of greater awareness And Higher consciousness. Every moment is a Fresh opportunity to climb up Into a state of higher consciousness and pure Love through a conscious shift in My attitude and Focus Of Attention. —Chinmayan July 1990, Summer Retreat at “Sunrise Sanctuary” Ludlow, Vermont
