MAGIC IN THE WIND Sometimes I feel Like all the magic Has been squeezed Out of me By life, by lovers and others Carrying a small love They could not grow beyond, But taking big pieces Of my heart With them as they Slowly or swiftly left. Sometimes I feel like the magic Has dripped out By degrees barely noticed, Then has gushed out In torrents, Like blood From wounds Not quite closed— Wounds from people And places that Made the Stream of my being Go crooked as it flowed Through the canyons of Experience in the Ordinary world— Cutting deeper Into the stone until stone No longer feels anything. But I am a spiritual traveler Who remembers and knows I alone am responsible for My own leaks of power And falls from grace and All those staggering, swirling, Confused days of dreaming Dark things In my despair Of almost believing That all magic is gone. I alone can open My eyes to seeing What is real And true— Spaces of the mind, Spaces of the heart— I choose the ones I live in— I create the mind’s taste And my own open heart’s view— And i choose love— Love for myself, Love for the ones still close And even love for those Who brought pain and hurt And i choose to believe in the Power of love and goodness To heal and make whole And in the divine light Which dispels despair and darkness— Reminding myself to experience The m attic of this spring wind, That sweeps through everything Like lush green trees tossing Their wide green crowns, In this full moon rising through Orange misty clouds of sunset— Another glorious day ending in the Endless stream of magic, Available, here and now, For me to be living in.
