Journey of the Heart # 1
“Soaring on Wings of Song” and “Saving Wandering Lovers”
With this issue of “The Dawning Light”, we are launching a new section to our newsletter which will be called “ Journey of the Heart”.
We describe it as “Transformational Poetry and Love Songs to Open Your Heart, Lift Your Spirits and Shine A Light On Your Way Home.”
From today, “Journey of the Heart” will be published every morning, 7 days a week…in a short read of just one or two poems.
We have made it a separate section within our main newsletter because it has a special and distinct purpose…which is to be a section devoted to sharing my transformational poetry, songs, revelations and translations of the great Bhakti poets such as Rumi, Mirabai, Kabir, Namdev , Milarepa and others.
This section of our newsletter is intended to be a space of daily sanctuary for our readers, a space that you love visiting, where great ideas and visions are shared in their purest form, where unexpected and delightful things that touch your heart are presented.
After today, when you open this section, it will just be the poetry and other writings without any commentary, with an occasional very short story.
I know most people groan when they hear about poetry to be presented, for almost all poetry that we have been exposed to is not very interesting, may not make sense, may be hard to understand and honestly is based in purely egoistic expression for literary purposes.
If you will give “Journey of the Heart” a chance, through reading the poems or listening to them in the audio version, I think you will be pleasantly surprised to find them very different and special in their own way.
I have been writing these “Transformational Poetry and Stories” prolifically for 59 years now, after an unexpected and powerful spiritual awakening as a teenager, which completely shifted the course and focus of my life.
From the very beginning, the purposes of my work has been to…be spiritually based; be lyrical and beautiful and finely crafted; to be very clear and simple to understand; to have a distinct flow of ideas or visions that are completed in each piece of writing…and to be dedicated to making a difference for others and for the world.
In all that time, I studied closely with great writers, such as the late Robert Bly and with great meditation masters, such as Kalu Rinpoche and the 16th Karmapa .
Through training with them and my own spiritual practices, I have always seeking for the way to healing and higher consciousness.
Writing has always been a conscious and vital part of my own spiritual path.
Though I have always known that the writings themselves were intended to help people and were not just for my own personal benefit, I have never published anything until now…when the inner calling on my heart to do so became so intense and insistent that we now are launching “Journey of the Heart.”
I know there are hundreds of pieces of radiant writing that I want to share with you, and now will be doing just that, one day at a time. This work truly is meant to benefit as many folks as possible. Enjoy!

Soaring On Wings of Song
This morning I rise up singing
Out of the listless fog
Swirling about this place
And my own sleepy mind.
I leap out of bed
To leave the night and
Its sanctuary of dreams
Far below and behind.
My heart surges with songs
Of gratitude invoking and
Celebrating all the good that is
Flowing through my life.
I rise up affirming that
Only good is my sweet destiny
And that the One I love and
Serve is calling me ever higher.
I am blessed and sanctified
To have another new day to
Do this work of bringing
Love out of pain,
And light from darkness
As I choose to invoke my own
Goodness and greatness of a sweet
Soul soaring on wings of song.

Saving Wandering Lovers
All night long
Cicadas fall into the pool,
Confused by the lights
Into thinking dawn is near
And it is time
To fly singing
Among the trees.
After 18 years underground,
As grubs digging
In darkness, the summer heat
Finally awakens them
To their destiny and
They climb out of the earth,
Split the hard shells
Of their old selves,
And rise into the air
On silver wings
That make songs as
They fly.
Now I see them flailing
Upside down in the
Illuminated water and I
Dive and dive again
To save them
From drowning.
They climb eagerly
Into my hands, and I carry
Them away from the lights,
And toss them into
The outer darkness.
After years underground,
Their crusty bodies
Last only three weeks,
And they have risen
For only one purpose—
To find their winged mate,
To make love,
Lay their eggs and die.
I swim for hours,
Saving dozens of wandering lovers
For their real destiny—
Going inside to sleep only
When I must, but with
Sadness that I cannot
Save them all.
