I JUST HAD EYE SURGERY AND AM RIDING WAVES OF PAIN
The unexpected levels of pain from eye surgery has me confined to a dark room
Dear Friends,
Two days ago I had eye surgery on my right eye which has been quite a journey through the land of pain.
I have always believed that my eyes were in relatively good condition, so when my primary doctor sent me to an eye specialist for a “routine Examination” I was shocked when he found that not to be true.
All the technical terms he used flew right past my understanding, except that I have cataracts and even worse big thick bulging growths on the surface of both eyes that were threatening to cover the pupils.
They were robust enough that they had warped my eyes and if left to continue would had ruined my sight.
The eye doctor said we need to do surgery to remove those growths before dealing with the cataracts but can only do one eye at a time.
He is so busy that we had wait two months for an opening in his schedule, but the day finally arrived.
During the surgery, he removed all of the bulging growth from my eye and covered the hole left from that with a skin graft from my inner eye lid.
I will write more about this experience after I have recovered from the surgery, but for now, I am sending this short version out to my “Dawning Light” family.
After the operation, I have had periods of pain that were “off the charts” that took me right to the edge of what I could handle.
My world has shrunk down to staying in bed, with the curtains drawn so its completely dark, taking the pain medications they gave me, and riding out the waves of pain.
But, I do practice the principles I share here in this newsletter because I know they are highly effective.
First, I keep a positive attitude and greet this time of pain as a precious opportunity to practice meditation, loving myself, and caring for myself at the very highest level.
I am practicing being absolutely present with this experience.
I am riding the golden chariot of conscious breathing, which does lessen the intensity of pain.
I am practicing gratitude—-to the surgeon and all the nurses who are helping heal my threatening eye conditions…to Ani, for being at my side and taking care of me…to myself for using this experience in the best way.
I may not be able to maintain our usual “Dawning Light” publication schedule…and this story is to explain why.
I will be fully back on board as soon as I am able, for this newsletter is very important to me, but for now I have to stay in that dark room until heal.
