Work Well Done
We rise together
While dancing stars
Still rule the night,
And get to work
With misty breath
Long before the sun
Breaks over the dark mountains
To the east.
We move about in silence—
Bent on our separate tasks
Of preparing for the work
Of the coming day…
Each knowing what to do
Without having to bring speech
Into our easy communion.
My beloved is radiant with an
Inner light which makes
Her eyes shine in
Cheerful concentration as we
Each understand and know the
Other’s strengths and abilities
And simply rely on each other in ways
Which deepen over the years.
In our deepest heart
Of being together in the dawn,
Love becomes our inner power
Union with the divine working within,
around and through us,
All tasks get accomplished in a flow
Of serving the greater good,
Doing whatever is asked of us
Lovingly in work well done.

Rain Music
Soft rain falls gently in the night,
A rolling symphony of beguiling and
Comforting wet cadence that
Feels sweet and right.
I lay in bed, exhausted
From the labors of overheated
Morning and afternoon, with the door
Open so that I can hear
The music of the rain.
As the world turns in increasing strain
To the violence and threats
To our survival, largely
Made by our own hand,
This rainy night is testament to
All the good in life.
As I lay in bed, too tired
To even think of raising my weary body,
I send my spirit out to dance
Among the raindrops and misty wind,
Inspired, uplifted and confident that
As long as these rare summer rains
Come to bolster our flagging belief,
I am certain that even in
These dark times, the greater
Part of ourselves will prevail and
All of humanity will come to
Live in radiant love and light.

Acquainted With The Night Intense rain is falling in the night. Our roof is booming like a drum Being beaten by millions of hands, Performing a symphony of pure delight. I am safe and dry in our meditation hall, Kept warm by dancing flames in the big wood stove, Burning wood from trees laid low by My saw and split by hand with a heavy maul. It is a privilege and pleasure of the heart To savor this very present moment— Alone in the night while the world sleeps, In this sanctuary of solitude of my chosen time apart. I am well acquainted with the night—- Ranging through all the hours until dawn, Choosing to rise from sleep to pray and meditate, Seeking the spreading of my spirit wings in eternal Luminous flight… I am well acquainted with the night.
