“NOTHING CAN HAPPEN TO YOU THAT IS NOT POSITIVE” as Joseph Campbell says in his book “The Art of Living
As long as you are willing to learn the lessons hidden in your experience and turn to prayer and meditation to work your way through it.
WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE WISE ASPIRANT TURNS TO PRAYER AND MEDITATION
“When the going gets tough, the wise aspirant knows to turn to prayer and meditation to work their way through it, to learn the lessons inherent in the experience and turn it to the good and positive”
When I look back across my life from the perspective of looking for the things that have happened which were the most valuable in shaping my spiritual development, I see clearly that it has always been the hardest to bear, most painful and frightening experiences that have taught me the most.
TURNING HEARTBREAK INTO MY HIGHEST GOOD
One such experience was the intense heartbreak of losing the relationship with the love of my life, and my need to deal with the resulting suffering that was so great that it threatened my physical existence.

The suffering forced me to spend five years on a mountain alone, fiercely seeking the presence of and communion with God until I attained it and finally was healed.
That experience ignited and empowered my prayer life because the suffering drove me to seek divine help with total fervor and persistence.
I knew focused prayer was my only path to becoming free of the shattering pain.
I NOW GREET THE HARD THINGS HAPPENING AS PRECIOUS OPPORTUNITIES
I have learned to greet suffering as an opportunity to push through to the heights of consciousness and communion with the divine.
It was the hard times of desperately needing money for crushing debts and the basic needs of daily life that drove me to pray for the divine help that I needed…and keep on praying through for as long as needed until that help was given.
It was suddenly emerging problems, challenges and loses like these that taught me to turn to prayer as my first priority response to every dire and threatening situation.
LEARNING THE POWER OF PRAYER BY PRAYING THROUGH FOR MY DAUGHTER’S LIFE
It was being at the bedside of my young daughter as she fought an infection that threatened her life and desperately praying through the long, hopeless and helpless night… until her fever broke miraculously and she was saved that taught me that prayer is our greatest privilege and power that is our birthright from the divine.
I have learned to have great respect for hard times…and harsh circumstances.
I no longer rail against my fate or waste energy complaining or crying out “Why me?”
As much as I may not like it or want it and certainly do not court hard times, if and when they come, I embrace them as a blessing as swiftly as possible.
I take the attitude that “I am going to get all the gold out of this situation and make it the most valuable thing that has ever happened to me.”
These attitudes are empowering and help me rise to my highest level of abilities to deal with whatever comes. ´

YOUR GREATEST TEACHERS ARE THOSE WHO HURT YOU THE MOST
Kalu Rinpoche would often say…
“You may regard me as your greatest guru, but the truth is that your greatest teachers will always be those people who betray you, who hurt you, who act against as enemies.
It is those people in your life that create circumstances that test you past the limit of what you thought you could handle that are your kindest and most valuable teachers.
They motivate and force you to seek relief through applying the Dharma, through very focused prayer and meditation.
Your greatest teachers are those who hurt and make you suffer the most.
“Your greatest teachers are those who hurt and make you suffer the most”
If your life is too easy, it is hard to be motivated to the highest levels you need to progress spiritually on the dharma path.”
I count myself as among the most fortunate because my life has never been easy, and I have been blessed to have had so many teachers of the heart breaking kind.
I am grateful for all the hard things I have been through because I can see clearly now that these experiences, more than any other, have shaped me into being the more loving, patient, compassionate and prayerful person I am today.
