OUR PURE AND INNOCENT LOVE “Let me not to the marriage of true minds, Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove. O no! It is an ever-fixed mark That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken. Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks Within his bending sickle’s compass come; Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom. If this be error and upon me proved, I never writ nor no man ever loved.” Sonnet 116 —Shakespeare Walking through the Old mission museum With its funky displays Of jumbled antiquities, We remember our First meeting long ago In a similar old fort’s Hall of cases full of Musty old things And the hours we Spent communing there— Then we were young, Just past childhood, Coming together At the very edge of Our man and womanhood, Drawn together by Powerful forces which We both sensed and saw, But did not need To understand. Our innocence Only meant there Were no real barriers To our full merging— No disappointments or pains Had yet created Walls around our Spirits or hearts And thus we Mingled freely, Without restraint. On this journey, Light and life years Past that time, We are coming together Again in even Deeper ways, Discovering as we Talk and make love And explore the full Range of soul to soul Communion unlimited— That somehow, once We have worked Past the barriers And let them dissolve, That inside us Our love is still Pure and fresh And our true Innocence has Never been lost, That we can Merge ever more Deeply now In this time of Mature openness.
