Prayer Always Change Things! God Cares For Us and Wants Us to Pray for Everything We Need...
A story about the power of prayer, our "hotline" to God, and God coming to my rescue in a hopeless situation after crying out from my heart for help.
Once, after working all day making firewood, deep in the wilderness by myself, I packed away my chainsaw, fired up my old truck and headed for home.
As I was driving down the mountain on a slick dirt road, I hit a patch of black ice, lost control and slid off into a deep ditch, with the two rear wheels spinning in wet mud.
It was late afternoon. I was way beyond cellphone range and the leading edge of a major storm was blowing in that I had heard on the radio was predicted to drop a few inches of rain and snow in the higher elevations overnight.
The temperatures were dropping so fast that it would soon be cold enough to turn the rain into snow.
I was 15 miles from pavement, far from town or anyone who could come to my rescue. No one knew where I was and I was not prepared to spend the night out in bad weather.
I worked for hours as night fell to free my old two wheel drive truck from its seemingly impossible situation, but everything I tried only made it worse.
I began to get scared.
I knew I was in real danger and started to get very concerned, as all I had with me was a light jacket, no food and little fuel.
I used every trick I knew, as a life long “country boy”, that might save me, but with each thing I tried, the truck wheels dug deeper and deeper into the mud until the rear axle was embedded in it.
I realized then that it was a hopeless situation.
There was nothing more I could do.
The rear axle was so far down into the ditch that the front of the truck was tilted at such a steep angle that the front wheels were barely touching the ground.
I began to panic, as visions of being found frozen to death in the cab of my truck under mounds of drifted snow at some future time intruded into my mind.
Suddenly, I heard the sweet gentle voice of my prayer warrior Grandmother whispering in my heart, “Remember this son, and never for get it…Prayer always changes things! God will always help us in hopeless situations, If we remember to pray and have a little faith!”
I had gotten so upset with myself for getting stuck in the first place, and then so frustrated when I couldn’t save the situation, that I had completely forgotten to pray and ask for the divine for help and guidance.
There and then, in the cab of my old truck, I bowed my head in fervent prayer and simply cried out “Lord, please help me right now!”
I knew this was the only way I was going to be saved.
Instantly, I felt a deep and clear peacefulness come over my mind and heard the sweet “ still small voice” of the inner guidance whispering “Start the truck now and drive it straight out.”
Without any change in circumstances…that is exactly what happened.
I put the truck in gear, gave the engine a little fuel, and it pulled up out of the ditch, and back onto the road right away without any stress or strain.
Though it was logically impossible to do, God had intervened with a miracle that made it seem easy.
I could hardly believe it myself, as once again, God answered my simple heartfelt prayer, like so many thousands of times before in my life.
I was so grateful and relieved that I praised and thanked God all the way off the mountain and back to the warmth and safety of home.
