BETWEEN TWO LOVES On The Way To Making Home Though I want to give Myself completely to this place, To the soaring comforting kind of Love that we pour out from Our hearts onto a place To make love with it, To make a bond with it, To make it our home— I still hold that love in Because I am not sure If you will ever come to live With me here— So I am caught between loves, Between many loves that Pull me in opposite directions— You, my beloved, wish for me To join you in the heat of the desert And make our home there, Far away from this mountain Land and my young daughters And my circle of friends And all the places I know deeply— I am perpetually strung Between these two loves and worlds— Like a spider constantly weaving From one side of my web of Life to the other in confusion, I daintily walk on skinny legs Between them with my heart Yearning for one side or The other— always wishing I could unite the different places, Loves and worlds into one Complete love that flows Together in one harmonious unity— Blessing, nurturing, inspiring all of Us who have joined ourselves in Love and life into one heart river In one place we all can call home. I AM LIKE A GREAT OAK TREE Wanting To Put Down Roots I am like a great oak tree, Already mature, not quite In its prime, but full branched, With limbs spreading high and Wide in all directions— But I am an oak tree without roots Sunk deep in the nurturing earth, Wanting and needing roots to stabilize, Making myself resistant to storms And threatening winds, making Me finally into a tree grown Into its full purpose and Potential to be home for Myself, my children and truest Love, for birds and small creatures, With my branches providing shade From the sun during the day, Catching moon and star light On hot summer nights— I am a man seeking his way To that time and place For making home by sinking my hungry Hurting, yearning roots down Into the dirt, reaching downwards And outwards as my love Flows into a place and to All the people, moments and Spaces of my life, flowing Unblocked by constant Uncertainty and movement, Flowing steadily through all Parts of this tree me— Leaves, branches, crusty Oak trunk, through roots sunk Deep into land that will Be our forever home.
