It is so important to slow down and take time off to share loving closeness doing simple things to reconnect and recreate with our close beloveds

We have learned the hard way how important it is to slow down and take time off from everything else to share a time of loving closeness of simply being together in silent communion and peaceful harmony.
It is Sunday afternoon on Still Mountain.
In the distance I can hear the mournful sound of the Skunk Train’s horn at its terminal in town, signaling to all passengers to board the train for the day’s journey through the Redwood forests and canyons of the Noyo River.
Ani and I are both realizing how much we need to slow down and enjoy each present moment and savor them like the precious jewels they are.
I have been reflecting on the profound implications of this quote from Kalu Rinpoche recently… “Everything in the universe is temporary and is ever moving towards it’s end.”
The biggest takeaway from this quote for me is—enjoy and be fully present with each moment as it comes and inevitably moves into the past, especially those shared with our beloveds—the only place we can really live and love is this very present moment.
Rain clouds are rolling in on winds carrying that special feeling of imminent rain.
Just now, thunder rumbled and crashed around us—so loud that it feels like the earth shook.
This weather is a total surprise, for the shifting skies happened so fast. Since the lovely blue-sky dawning of the day and all through the morning, it has been perfectly calm and clear.
But when I check the weather report, I see brief heavy rain is predicted for just an hour this afternoon.
For us, this is like a blessing on an already special day, for today we are sharing what we call “sweet time.”
“Sweet time” is when Ani and I drop everything else to focus on being together in communion.

For us, this morning, it was sitting in our newly created Secret Garden, while we listened to heart opening music we both love… sitting next to each other, holding hands, and singing along with the songs.
We didn’t talk, for verbal communication is at a lower vibration than our conscious communing.
We flowed together in absolute harmony as we shared each perfect moment as it came.
We slowed everything down to simply being here now.
Though we have had many conflicts and much healing to go through during our years together, our deep love and bond has only gotten so strong and clear that we now live in a pure love state most of the time.
It is “sweet time’ because we know we need to reconnect and reactivate this love state when we have been apart…or we have been working too hard and too fast at something.
Ani has been away for two days, so we have both had two days alone in solitude. Our “sweet time” today was like being thirsty travelers coming to a mountain spring of cool crystal-clear water to drink.
I am grateful that, after all the years of hard stuff and intense healing, we have emerged into this new radiant space of higher love together, which we both cherish. We know that, like a rose, love needs the right care and conditions to thrive and grow.
After our “sweet time,” we went off to our separate tiny houses to take a nap—a rest from the work and pushing to achieve important goals we were both focused on before today.
As soon as I laid down in my cloud like bed, with its big window view of the great oak hanging over my house and the wide green fields, I slipped into a blissful slumber.

An hour later, I got woken up by thunder crashing and rumbling in a continuous roll and heavy rain drumming on the roof.
As I snapped out of being drowsy, I realized this sudden storm was so intense and special that I wanted to run outside and revel in it.
So I did, and got drenched in seconds by cold raindrops as the ground quivered from rolling thunder.
I celebrate the coming of this swift and sudden rain…while knowing it may be the last downpour for months until winter returns.
Where we live, summers are dry, hot and intense. It is a time when we have more frequent heat waves that are so relentless that we appreciate even the hint of coolness now.
We will have months of sunny days that we dream of during the long harsh winters—just as during the intense lashing of cold, freezing nights and one atmospheric river after another, we dream of the joys of summer’s one perfect hot day after another.
In the hour it has taken me to write this story, the storm has slipped away to the north and completely disappeared, with its thunder rumbling far away from us.
Now it is a perfect day again. I rejoice and see it all as a blessing from the divine on this special day of blissful delight.
