THE BEST WAY TO FREE YOURSELF FROM ALL SOURCES OF SUFFERING Is To Dedicate Yourself To Being A Force of Love, Caring and Compassion For All Living Beings Everywhere —For all those who are doing Seva, “Selfless Service,” Sincerely seeking to serve others all over the world My first Guru, Kalu Rinpoche often said— To us, his first American disciples— “When washing the dishes, Wash your mind. When sweeping the floor, Sweep up all the dirt Arising in your mind stream. While making food or Eating a meal, think of all Those who are hungry and Give rise to the sincere desire That all beings everywhere Have they everything they need.” “Having taken the Bodhisattva Vow,* Remember that you have taken The intention and responsibility For serving and benefiting all beings— That you have dedicated yourself To going through all the stages of Transformation in your practice, No matter how hard it is or How long it may take, With the sincere goal of attaining Enlightenment so that you gain The ability and power to bring All beings out of their suffering And help them all attain Liberation.” “In everything you do, Instead of allowing your monkey mind To jump from one arising thought To another, sowing confusion and so Many painful afflictive emotions, Constantly bring your mind back To this one single thought— Which is the fastest and surest path To becoming free of your own suffering So that you can help all beings become free— May everything I do with My body, speech and mind Bring benefit to all living beings Everywhere without a single exception.” *The Bodhisattva Vow is a vow, usually taken in The presence and inspiration of a teacher, in which you commit Yourself to focusing on compassionate action through dedicating All the positive results of your spiritual practices to benefiting All living beings to relieve their suffering and that you are Going for attaining Enlightenment so that you gain all the Abilities and power necessary to help all beings attain liberation. The key point of the Vow is to overcome one’s selfish attitude and Consciously take on the attitude and desire to serve others and Make the welfare of others your focus, becoming more and more Loving, caring and compassionate which is seen as the Fastest and best way of dissolving the ego’s entrenched desire to look after Oneself first and foremost, which is said to be the actual Source of the suffering we all create for ourselves…. Through consciously choosing to become a force of love In the world through dedicating yourself to serving all living beings. July 8, 2021 Still Mountain Retreat
My First Guru, Kalu Rinpoche, who I met and became one of his first American disciples in 1972 on his first world tour…
Kalu Rinpoche Was A True Bodhisattva Who Exemplified Compassion and Service To All Living Sentient Beings
Kalu Rinpoche was a true Bodhisattva, a fully enlightened person who was 100 per cent dedicated to doing everything in his power to helping as many living beings as possible to become free from suffering.
That is why he traveled the world teaching the Dharma principles and practices for attaining enlightenment and transforming one’s own life through one’s own efforts using these tools…
An Example of Bodhisattva activity, Compassion in Action
Whenever Kalu Rinpoche was in San Francisco to teach us, his American disciples and those who wanted to become practitioners, he would go to Chinatown between programs to the live animal market and buy as many living ducks and doves and fish as he possibly could…
Then, he and his entourage would transport them to a large lake in Golden Gate Park and release them all…placing every fish into the water with his own hands and opening the duck’s cages so they would waddle to the lake and swim out on it, free to live out their lives in that beautiful place.
Then He would release all the doves, who would joyfully fly up into the sky, so happy to be free.
He and everyone with him would pray for these animals…and then for the welfare of all living beings everywhere in the world.
And wherever Rinpoche went on his travels, he was always looking for ways, often unknown and simple, to help as many beings as he could.
