THE BIRTH OF TRANSFORMATIONAL WRITING AND FULFILLING THE DIVINE’S HIGHER PURPOSE
After having a major spiritual awakening as a teenager, and becoming a disciple of Kalu Rinpoche’s, I discovered the transformational power of writing in a high vibrational state.
A SUDDEN, UNEXPECTED SPIRITUAL AWAKENING CHANGED EVERYTHING
I suddenly started writing immediately after having an unexpected and sudden major spiritual awakening one summer afternoon when I was 14.
The day before I saw myself as a budding scientist in training with no interest in writing anything except schoolwork.
The next day, I had completely and mysteriously lost all interest in science and was consumed by the desire to be furiously writing one poem after another…and writing became my primary interest and focus.
I didn’t question why this sudden change happened—I just knew that writing and learning how to write well was a need and a drive coming from my heart.

I CRAVED SOLITUDE AND LONG WALKS ON THE WHITE SAND BEACH ALONE
The other major change is that I craved solitude…every evening after dinner with my family, I would slip out to walk the miles of deserted white sand beach of the island we lived on.
It was on these nightly walks that I first heard the whispers of inner guidance teaching me how to become totally present in the moment through using walking and breathing as walking meditation.
I now understand that I have been on the spiritual path for many lifetimes in which meditation, mantra and kirtan were my daily practices and priority focus.
At a certain level of spiritual development, the flow of our practice is so powerful that it comes with us from one lifetime into the next as a propensity.
In all of my recent lifetimes, I have had total resolve to evolve and formed an unstoppable intention that I would awaken to my real purpose in the next lifetime…and take up my practices again.
AWAKENING TO MY SELF AND MY SPIRITUAL PATH
This is what happened during my awakening—I had a soul remembering in which I became who I really am.
From the beginning, writing has been a vital part of my path.

WRITING IS A FORM OF MEDITATION
For me, writing is a form of meditation, especially when the words are flowing easily and naturally.
When I am writing, I enter a higher state of awareness and consciousness.
I am aware that my “talent” and writing skill has been honed over many lifetimes.
I realized from day one that in order to learn the craft, I had to study with writers who had mastered it, through studying their lives and writings for whatever they could teach me.
I also understood that writing had to be a daily practice because of my burning desire to constantly improve.
When I review the notebooks of prolific writing from those first years, it is obvious that I was really struggling to find my voice and purpose.
I was never interested in creating literature or following in the footsteps of any of the writers I studied.
I knew I was forging my way forward on new paths that would continue opening ahead of me as I made daily progress.

LIFE HAS A HIGHER PURPOSE
Ever since my awakening, I understood that life has a higher purpose and much deeper meaning than our logical, mundane minds can understand.
As I was writing, I was seeking my way forward on my spiritual path naturally and intuitively alone under the direction of my inner guidance…until the day I realized my heart was longing to find my destined teacher.
Even as I was having an amazing life and adventures as a young man, I was looking for the one who could give me the spiritual training and encouragement I needed.
MEETING KALU RINPOCHE AND TAKING UP DAILY MEDITATION LED TO MORE AWAKENINGS
Through a series of astonishing events, I met and became one of the first American disciples of Kalu Rinpoche in 1972.
This was my second major awakening.
After I began applying the principles and doing the meditation practices he taught me, my writing and my life blossomed to higher and higher levels.
The more I practiced, the more every area of life improved…like a desert transformed by the coming of steady rain.

THE BIRTH OF TRANSFORMATIONAL WRITING
I can still remember the moment when the principles of transformational writing became crystal clear to me during a meditation session.
Suddenly, I discovered my true writing voice as I understood that this incessant drive to write is part of fulfilling the divine mission I was sent here to do…
That all of my writing serves an important spiritual purpose and is an expression of my altruistic loving nature…ü
and that this writing talent was given to me to serve the world and turbo charge my own spiritual development.
FIFTY YEARS OF TRANSFORMATIONAL WRITING MEDITATION PRACTICE
From that day until the present, everything I have written has been transformational writing...
Which means it was created while in a high state of consciousness achieved through deep prayer and meditation…and that the writing is charged with high vibrational divine energy…which affects the reader in very positive and transforming ways.
This is why I call “The Dawning Light” a “daily journal of transformational writing.”
Just by reading each day’s two issues, many of our subscribers are experiencing steadily improving positive shifts in their attitudes and life experiences.
That is one of the intentions and guiding principles that give transformational writing its highest purpose.
That is why I am grateful for all the benefits and blessings that this kind of writing continues to bring into my life…and into yours.
