THESE HOT TEARS REMIND ME WHO I REALLY AM One of the greatest gifts I have given myself is when I realized the value of tears And removed all restraint to crying. I no longer believe what I was taught As an innocent young boy—that real grown Men never cry and that if I did, It was a shameful thing. I now understand that when tears Gather in my eyes to fall like rain, I must not hold them back, but let Them come and fall as they will— For I now know the true value Of tears and what they mean— Something has touched my tightly Closed heart so much that it is opening Again as some painful buried wound inside Moves from being unrecognized and bound, From stuck or stifled in place to now Rising up in free and liberating expression. I now never hold back the tears which Begin as a movement in my chest, as a Tsunami of emotions so sweeping and powerful That they cannot and should not be denied. The greater and vital part of me, The eternal spirit I really am, who is Living in this human body for a time, unfolds It’s wide white wings in emotional tumult— As I realize in that moment of tears That I was born to love and care, that I am here to do as much good as as I can And these hot tears remind me of who I really am.
