THROUGH THE TUNNEL of CONFUSION And Loneliness After My First Love Has Gone —For Joan The days tumble by Since you have gone— Each adding itself To a pile of pastness That will become a Mountain for me to climb As I attempt to see My way home again. I am passing through A long tunnel of confusion, Fear and loneliness, crawling Through dark places Towards a spot of Brightness glowing Invitingly in The far distance. This sudden shift of Realities carries me along Towards a new life that I did not want or ask for Made by your choice to Fly and live far away— leaving Me to constantly ask myself Where am I now? Where am I going? On this journey of heart aching And lonely lostness that I would never have chosen— And yet I know life goes on and It is best not to ask questions Too loudly until I am able And willing to hear the answers. ON THE BEACH OF OUR LOVE —For Joan This afternoon I come, Almost by accident, To one of our old places Of special magic. I cannot help but Be here again with you As we made love Near those pine trees Next to the surging ocean That still calls out to me. I relive the space We shared as if it were now. I gaze at the hills Studded with mysterious stones That we gazed at together On an afternoon like this. It is true that I have Become accustomed To the distance That lies between us. It is true that I Have learned the art Of solo flight— And yet My heart still cries out, As I know it always will, For the lasting communion of Our two souls rising again And again in our own Pure true eternal love. “Only pure love is real— for two hearts, minds and souls who have loved so deeply that the two have become one share a connection that will last and bring them together from even the farthest reaches of the universe for lifetime after lifetime as their love ever grows and becomes a union so profound and so blessed that they will never be separated again….”
