Fervent Praise and Thanksgiving I remind myself constantly to remember How precious this life really is, How rich in potential for spiritual growth And learning how to love with my full heart, How amazing even the simplest things are, Such as raindrops falling into puddles or the Beauty of my beloved’s eyes shining with love, Or this heart that keeps on beating inside this body And this brain, which has the ability to Visualize the farthest edges of the universe And is so beautifully and wonderfully made And sustained, all by itself, as I live Each new day all the way through To the end of my days… And then, when it is time I will take the sacred journey of Leaving this world behind to go Be with my sweet Lord again In those higher realms glimpsed Here on earth in the glory and Majesty of even the smallest thing. But, heaven can wait for I am Still here with destined work to do. I remind myself again and again How precious this life really is, As I take each new breath, grateful to still to here, Grateful that I can still raise my voice In fervent praise and thanksgiving. Power of A Playful Stance Waiting in the cold, At a windy bus stop With my children Who are pretending to be Kittens or horses or roaring polar bears, I choose to burn through a few Lines of verse to keep all of us warm. Sometimes we cannot escape Cold or heat or unhappy sadness or The big bad wolf howling at the door. But there is always a stance That protects, that illuminates, That sees us through To the other side If we don’t give in To the dark forces When they try to come near. My children play happily In the piercing cold as I write— Teaching me the power of a Playful stance and a happy heart That turns aside the gathering darkness. January 15, 1985

Ecstasy and Means Some days I want to Crawl back into the womb Of my own restless inclinations. Some days I rant and scream And tear myself on trees and power Lines like a nervous kite. But, when my vision clears, As it always does in due course, Through magic, accident or discipline, I perceive that this pain filled world truly is A paradise of love, freedom and tears. And then, soaring ever higher on my Shimmering, silvery, spirit wings, I see that all of us are enrolled from birth In life’s school of ecstasy and skillful means. There is a deeper meaning in everything, That’s waiting within to be seen and revealed, Through opening my eyes and my heart to live from love In the divine’s school of ecstasy and skillful means. SPIRIT VOYAGER I can voyage between the stars As easily as letting poems write themselves, As allowing the flowing guru rivers to Take me where I am supposed to go.
