VICTORY COMES TO THOSE WHO WILL NOT QUIT— AND GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES “Many people miss the great opportunities They have wanted and waited their whole life for… Because these chances to push forward arrive in Work clothes and boots and seem just too hard To do so that, even if they make a good beginning, They fall prey to their own doubts and fears, And end up quitting right at the point when, With just a little more effort, they would have Broken through everything against them and won.” —Yeshe Gyamtso Pushing hard to do the work We need to get done, out in a storm Of cold furious rain and wind in the Failing light of late afternoon We both feel the urgency Of not just these fraying moments Of pushing hard to accomplish the goal, But of giving rise to the power Which reliably rises from within As we go far past thinking we Can or can’t do the work needed to Simply do what must be done And done well in this moment For the greater good of all— Even when the going onwards Seems impossible and the odds are Stacked high against us— For in our hearts and souls We know all these challenges Which seem so set against us now Are actually opportunities for us to Come to power and understand— victory only Comes to those who will not quit and God always helps those who help themselves.
