WHEN PAIN BECOMES MY UNWELCOME VISITOR When pain becomes my Unwelcome visitor, appearing unannounced In this aging warrior’s body, I already know that sounding The call to battle will only Make this experience more Of what it already is— And so, I consciously choose to Greet it as a friend who Has appeared in my life To teach me humility, To help train me in the ways Of hurting which all of us Must face sooner or later— Thus, instead of resistance and fury, I gently open my heart to This new neighbor who has come Not to punish, but indeed To help me grow in greater Love and patient understanding.
