WE ALL HAVE TO FACE SUDDEN UNEXPECTED CHANGES
It’s a fact of life that we all will have to face sudden unexpected changes and situations which will test us, which can only be overcome and dealt with effectively through tapping into our inner power.
One of my favorite movies is “Forest Gump”, which is the story of a pure, innocent and special man and his life as he goes through many challenging experiences and emerges victorious in the end. One of my favorite lines from the movie is when Forrest Gump says:
My momma always said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
Everyday when you get up in the morning, its true, you never know what you’re gonna get…
A sudden unexpected and unwanted change, such as a car accident, tornado, getting fired from your job, having your spouse file for divorce or a medical issue can happen at any time.
NOTHING IN LIFE IS PERMANENT
One of the fundamental truths of life that we all pretend isn’t true is everything is always changing, nothing is permanent and change is beyond our control.
No matter how well planned and thought out our lives are, with stable day to day routines and expected outcomes, sooner or later we all will have to face sudden, unexpected and unwanted situations and experiences.
You never really know how strong and resilient you are until a situation requires you to tap your inner resources to be as strong and resilient as you need to be to deal gracefully with it.
THE SEVEN KEYS FOR TAPPING YOUR INNER POWER DURING SUDDEN CHANGE OR OVERWHELMING SITUATIONS
Here are Seven simple, but powerful suggestions on the best ways to handle sudden change.
All of them were distilled from my own lifetime of facing and learning to deal with overwhelming situations.
I have learned them through having to go extreme experiences of loss, heartbreak, fear, grief that required me to rapidly come to power if I was going to survive and ever thrive again.
I will be sharing stories and writing more about these essential keys for coming to power in future issues. I know these suggestions can be of tremendous help in times of trouble if they are applied.
THE SEVEN KEYS
1) Consciously shift your point of view. Kalu Rinpoche would often say that every situation that is overwhelming and scary is actually a precious opportunity because it requires and forces us to strive for a very high level of awareness, and tap into and use our inner abilities that we discovered and developed from meditation practice.
He said one could make rapid spiritual progress during such times because we are highly motivated to tap our inner resources fully. He recommended that we work to use all of our life experiences as spiritual training…especially those of heartbreak, great loss, hurt or fear with the goal of gaining mastery over our own mind.
2) Watch your thoughts and your attitude: Beware of any thoughts that drain your power and make you feel more stressed, fearful or overwhelmed. Instead, accept only loving, positive and empowering thoughts.
Be careful to maintain a positive attitude of believing in yourself, that you not only can, but will step up to the plate and deal with whatever is coming up.
3) Watch your energy, knowing that you must stay clear and strong. Whatever situation you are facing, you want it to get better, to be worked through and resolved with the best possible outcome.
You can certainly do this, as long as you maintain your highest level of clear energy, focus and attention…not allowing fear, overwhelm, despair or any other negative energy to take over.

4) Come into the sanctuary of the present moment. Most of the time most of our power is frittered away on thinking of the past or concerns about the future.
But, if you have already been ongoingly training yourself to come back into and remain present in this very moment, it will be a major resource in challenging times.
There is a complete upper ward shift in consciousness that happens whenever you are fully present.
Being in that higher consciousness allows you to see the situation from the highest perspective possible, to more profoundly understand what’s really happening, to see solutions that are invisible in lower states, and to be fully and unwaveringly use your inner powers in the best way and right time.
5) Take the long view. I have been through many sudden changes that completely crashed my world and took me to the most painful, terrifying and even life threatening experiences.
Now, years later, I am at peace with every scenario because I have applied all of these suggestions over time.
They no longer have any painful or negative residue inside me.
Knowing this, I remind myself that this too shall pass.
6) Face your fears and gain control over them. This is one of the biggies because fear is an overwhelming emotion that grows and grows the more you feel and focus on it.
It helps me to use this analogy for gain control over my fear: my fear is like a fierce tiger coming towards me.
I already know that if I turn and try to run, the tiger will overtake me and destroy me.
My only choice is to face the tiger, looking it in the eyes to see it’s true nature…and using all my concentration to release my fear, breathe deeply and ready myself to take effective action in the situation…then, I am riding the tiger and its power is within my control.
7) Go into prayer and meditation so that you can hear your divine inner guidance, using the urgency of the situation to push through and achieve a state of deep prayer in which your hear ‘the still small voice within.”
This is by far the most important of all these suggestions.
The first thing to do when “the shit hits the fan” is to take time out from everything else and go to prayer.
Go to a still, private space where you can be alone, undisturbed, in solitude and completely focus on praying through, asking for help, asking to hear the guidance, to be shown what you need to know or do to resolve the situation.
I have been in many situations where the only way though was with divine help and guidance, which can only be accessed through prayer and meditation.
I have seen God move out to help me resolve situations every time when I immediately went to prayer and prayed through with the single focus of connecting with the divine and getting the help and guidance I needed.
Every single time that I prayed through for hours or days or however long it took for me to connect with God, I received the help I needed at the perfect time and perfect way.
Sometimes it was through miraculous intervention when needed, but most of the time it was through being given inner guidance about what I needed to understand, do or change to resolve things…or through leading me to or sending other people who could help me…but in whatever form it came in, help was always provided as God’s response to my prayers.
